Use A Database /  Article Index

Article Index

  • when you want to find articles on your topic in magazines, journals or newspapers

Database / Article Indexes
Database / Article indexes (also called periodical indexes) may include the full text, abstracts, or citations only of articles in magazines, journals and newspapers.

Some database / article indexes contain abstracts or brief summaries of the articles. Many databases, such as Academic Search Premier,  contain the full text or entire content of whole articles as they originally appeared in the periodical.

Online databases and article indexes, purchased by the WSC Library are accessible from the library Web site. The library also owns print indexes, good for researching older materials that are not included in online indexes. For example, The Book Review Digest in print goes back to 1907.

Examples of Databases and Article Indexes

  • Academic Search Premier (a general article index, with many full text articles)
  • ERIC (an index to articles about Education topics. Includes abstracts)
  • Criminal Justice Periodicals (a Criminal Justice article index, with some full text)
