Two Types of Article Indexes

2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area? 
If so, use a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:
 
PsycINFO
Covers Psychology with records from 1806 to present. Provides abstracts from dissertations, books, book chapters, technical reports, and approximately 2,000 journals on psychology published in 50 countries. 
Historical Abstracts
Provides historical coverage of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the U.S. and Canada) by providing citations to over 1,700 journals, books, and dissertations published worldwide in over forty languages. Covers 1954 to present.
Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text
Comprehensive coverage of international journals, books, reports, dissertations and unpublished papers on criminology and related disciplines; includes links to full text articles in 270 journals
