In the morning we drove over the Cane Bay. It is just a spectacular drive, through all sorts of different topography. You rise over one of the highest spots on the island along a narrow, switchback road that has bicycle hill climb marks on it. The views are spectacular.
Cane Bay is on the North central coast of the island. As the weather comes from the Northeast, this is the more active part of the island - not like where we are where there are never any waves. We tried out snorkeling. Jacob and Kris stayed a bit more in the shallows, having their own Cirque de Soleil with cartwheels, backflips, and acrobatics of all sorts - with snorkel masks! Addie and Julian tried to get out to "The Wall" a ledge where the water drops from 30 feet to 300 feet at the edge of a large reef. About 1/3 of a mile from shore, thinking we must be in the vicinity, we lost sight of the bottom at about the same time we lost the rest of our nerve. But it was worth the while, we swam in a school of 3,000 fish (Addie's number), saw a 3 foot barracuda, and a small jellyfish.
We had lunch at a quintessential island bar, sitting at the bar with a direct view of the beach. (See attached.) It was marvelous.
Upon return, late having gotten quite lost, the mongoose crew went out for their first retrieval. Of the 32 traps that were set, 5 yielded results. Everybody gathered upon their return to oh and ah over the processing of the cute little critters.
Julian had a conch, a twin to Jacob's, providing another fine meal.
